Modern patient care practices create many new questions and uncertainties as they continually push the boundaries of what is possible for treatment. This conference is aimed to provide guidance through the maze of healthcare decision making. The first annual Acadia Hospital Ethics Conference features interactive presentations and discussions with participating healthcare professionals about current, new, and emerging questions in psychiatric, medical, and community healthcare ethics.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Clifton F. Guthrie, Ph.D. is Chair of Humanities and Professor of Ethics and Humanities at Husson University. He received his B.A. from Duke University, his M.Div. from Candler School of Theology, and his Ph.D. from Emory University. He taught for fifteen years in theological education at Emory University and Bangor Theological Seminary, during which time he published books and articles on practical theology and was a visiting scholar at Cambridge University’s Psychology and Religion project. In 2007 he joined the faculty at Husson University where he teaches and writes about ethics, philosophy, moral psychology, and religion. He has lead professional ethics trainings throughout Maine for social workers, counselors, nurses, and tax assessors.
